Stephen Hazell, on behalf of the Citizen Climate Counsel (C3), has submitted a letter to Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Council on Ottawa’s 2026 draft budget tabled this November.
C3 is concerned that the draft budget does not do enough to address the increasingly serious climate impacts on the city, and this letter outlines their recommendations for how to address the climate emergency in this budget.
C3 has three key recommendations for this budget:
Plan for a dramatic increase in investments in climate resilience, including at both the community an City level;
Investments in this budget should focus on low cost win-win climate solutions; and
This budget should include funding for accountability measures for the City to meet its climate commitments (including Climate Ready Ottawa, Energy Evolution, and
Climate Change Master Plan).
C3 would be happy to meet with he Mayor’s office, individual Council members, committees, or City staff to further discuss these recommendations and how best to advance them in Budget 2026.
You can read the full letter, including further details on all three recommendations, here.
